Etching of white ink on black paper
The unicorn’s closest living relative is the northern white rhino. The artist has chosen to make 2 artist’s proofs of this print, to symbolise and also pay respect to the two remaining northern white rhinos Najin and Fatu (both female).
This experimental print, made from the same plate as ‘Ghost of a Unicorn’, uses white ink on black paper as a more literal translation of Elasmotherium Sibiricum. Studies of the white rhino were critical to the ‘reimagining’ of the unicorn as they gave clues to the structure of the unicorn’s feet to the shape of its nose and insight into how it would have moved.
